By Caroline Ellstrom,

In the evolving landscape of software development and quality assurance (QA), efficiency is paramount. Teams need tools that simplify workflows, increase collaboration, and reduce manual tasks. That’s where Testim comes in, and we’re excited for you to discover some of the latest advancements designed to elevate your testing processes.

Additionally, we’ve listened to your feedback and incorporated new capabilities into Testim to help your success in test management, reporting, and test recovery. This is the first in a series highlighting our latest updates. Here’s a detailed overview:

Platform advancements

PDF test reports: Streamlined stakeholder communication

Reporting is a critical aspect of any testing process, yet manually creating and formatting reports can be labor-intensive. We’re happy to introduce updated PDF Test Reports. This feature allows you to generate professional, shareable reports of your test results, complete with detailed execution data, test coverage, as well as pass/fail status.

Specifically, these reports provide stakeholders with a clear, concise view of testing progress, allowing for easier communication across teams. Whether for client meetings, leadership presentations, or compliance documentation, these reports are game-changing. In this case, say farewell to complex reporting tools and manual formatting, because Testim handles it all.

Enhanced test recovery: Minimize downtime

While test failures are inevitable, recovery shouldn’t hinder your progress. Test recovery has long been a challenge for many QA teams, and we’ve made significant strides in this area. Testim now offers enhanced recovery mechanisms to make sure your tests can be rerun swiftly and efficiently after a failure, reducing downtime and minimizing impact on your testing schedule.

These improvements help you resume testing faster with less manual intervention. The recovery process is now smoother, allowing your team to focus more on testing and less on troubleshooting.

Testim Web advancements

Performance boost: Optimized web test recordings

For those working with large and complex applications, this update is pivotal. We’ve optimized our web test recording process to elevate testing performance for complex applications.

By implementing selective and conditional DOM cloning, we avoid unnecessary duplicates and handle changes efficiently, resulting in faster performance. While much of this update operates behind the scenes, it provides a smoother testing experience by reducing system resource usage. Instead of cloning a new DOM, we leverage your existing one whenever possible. These improvements lead to a faster and more efficient recording process.

Cloning tests across projects: Easy reusability and collaboration

One of the most requested features is here! Cloning tests across projects is now possible within Testim. This feature explicitly addresses a major pain point for many testing teams. Whether working on multiple product versions, collaborating with different teams, or reusing tests in various contexts, you can now easily clone and repurpose tests across projects.

Previously, teams had to recreate tests from scratch for different projects, leading to duplicated effort and inconsistent test coverage. Now that this feature has been released, you can quickly copy existing tests into other projects, saving time and ensuring consistency. This feature is already making a impact, significantly helping teams refine their workflows.

Mobile advancements

Enhanced mode: Reliable testing for hybrid and cross-platform applications

Enhanced mode delivers tests that are more stable, faster, and versatile compared to Appium-based testing. With its zero-knowledge approach and unified API, the new Enhanced mode understands the internal structure of your mobile applications better than any other tool on the market.

Also Enhanced mode enables reliable testing for hybrid applications (with embedded web views), applications created with React Native and Flutter cross-platform frameworks, as well as native apps. To clarify, these applications, which are challenging to test and unreliable using Appium, are now fully supported using Enhanced mode.

Testim Salesforce advancements

Dynamic Forms

Now Fields on Lightning pages can be converted to Dynamic Forms, allowing for field grouping and dynamic layouts. For instance, fields can be grouped from different sections and organized into components, such as columns and tabs. What’s more is sections and fields also now have visibility rules based on record data, user details, and device type.

Why these updates matter

To summarize, at Tricentis, we understand the challenges QA teams face with test automation. Test creation, management, reporting, and recovery can be rather time-consuming, especially when tools aren’t flexible enough to meet your project’s unique needs.

With these latest updates, Testim is more powerful and flexible than ever. Here’s how these new capabilities will additionally benefit your team:

  • Save Time: Clone tests across projects and generate reports automatically, reducing manual effort and allowing your team to focus on higher-value activities.
  • Increase Test Reusability: By cloning tests, you ensure consistency and reduce duplicated work, saving time and effort across teams.
  • Improve Visibility and Collaboration: Share test results and reports seamlessly with stakeholders through the new PDF reports, enhancing communication and decision-making.
  • Strengthen Security: With secrets, you can securely manage sensitive data during testing, ensuring top-notch security practices.

Looking ahead

Nevertheless, these updates are just the beginning. In the meantime we will continue to listen to your feedback, so we can keep adding more capabilities to help you automate faster, collaborate more effectively, and ensure better test stability.
